114th Fighter Wing


Mission

The mission of the 114th Fighter Wing is to deploy worldwide and execute directed tactical fighter sorties to destroy enemy forces, supplies, equipment, 
communications systems and installations with conventional weapons, or when directed by the Governor to protect life and property, preserve peace, order and public safety.

Biographies

Colonel Mark Morrel

Colonel Mark R. Morrell is the Commander of the 114th Fighter Wing, located at Joe Foss Field, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As Commander, he is responsible for leading, training, and equipping 1100 Airmen of the Wing whose primary mission set includes generation and employment of fighter aviation air power worldwide. The 114th Fighter Wing also provides aircraft and manpower in support of NORADs aerospace control alert mission. In addition, The 114th Fighter Wing provides civil support to the Governor of the State of South Dakota.


Colonel Morrell entered the Air Force in May 1999 as a graduate of South Dakota State University and as a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 780. He served on Active Duty for 12 years before transitioning home to the South Dakota Air National Guard. He has been assigned to numerous operational and staff positions at the squadron, group and wing levels. Colonel Morrell is a Command Pilot with over 2,700 flying hours, is qualified as an Instructor Pilot, and is both a graduate of and former instructor at the United States Air Force Weapons School. He has taken part in training operations in South Korea, Alaska, Italy, Japan, and Jordan. He has also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel along with NATOs Resolute Support Mission.


Prior to his current assignment, he was the 114th Fighter Wing Vice Commander, 114th Operations Group Commander, and 114th Operations Support Squadron Commander; all at Joe Foss Field, South Dakota.

114th Maintenance Group

The mission of the 114th Maintenance Group is to ensure that assigned aircraft and equipment are safe, serviceable, and properly configured to meet mission requirements. Maintenance actions include, but are not limited to, inspection, repair, overhaul, modification, preservation, refurbishment, testing, and analyzing condition and performance.

114th Mission Support Group

The mission of the 114th Mission Support Group is to direct the activities of the 114th Mission Support Flight, 114th Civil Engineer Squadron, 114th Security Forces Squadron, 114th Communications Flight, 114th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and the 114th Services Flight toward the overall missions and objectives of the 114th Fighter Wing.

114th Operations Group

The mission of the 114th Operations Group is to deploy worldwide and execute directed tactical fighter sorties to destroy enemy forces, supplies, equipment, communications systems and installations with conventional weapons.

114th Medical Group

The mission of the 114th Medical Group is, upon mobilization, to provide manpower replacement tasking by the gaining major command, Air Combat Command. The 114th Medical Group provides limited health services for approximately 1,000 personnel assigned to the 114th Fighter Wing.

HQ, South Dakota Air National Guard

The mission of Headquarters, South Dakota Air National Guard is to prepare plans, policies, and programs for Air National Guard units assigned to the State; to advise and assist the Adjutant General in execution of these plans; and assist in the administration, logistics, and training of Air National Guard units.
