Mission

The mission of the 114th Fighter Wing is to deploy worldwide and execute directed tactical fighter sorties to destroy enemy forces, supplies, equipment, 
communications systems and installations with conventional weapons, or when directed by the Governor to protect life and property, preserve peace, order and public safety.

Biographies

MAJOR GENERAL STEVEN R. DOOHEN

Major General Steven R. Doohen was appointed by Governor M. Michael Rounds as South Dakota's 20th Adjutant General on Sept. 16, 2007. As The Adjutant General, he serves as the Commanding General of both the South Dakota Air and Army National Guard where he guides the preparation of the 4,400 Air and Army National Guard citizen Soldiers, Airmen, and 950 full-time federal and state employees to respond in times of state or national emergency. He is responsible for federal and state missions, assignment of leaders, recruiting, training, equipping, mobilization, facilities, and public relations. He is also responsible for formulating, developing, and coordinating all policies, plans, and programs affecting Air and Army National Guard members in South Dakota.

General Doohen serves on the Governor's cabinet as the Secretary of Military and Veterans Affairs. In this capacity, he is the principle advisor to the Governor on military and veterans matters.

General Doohen joined the South Dakota Air National Guard in January of 1971. Thereafter, he attended the Academy of Military Sciences at McGhee-Tyson, Tenn., and received his commission in 1971. He completed pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base in 1972. He is a command pilot with over 4,500 hours of tactical flight time in the F-100, A-7 and F-16 aircraft.

114th Maintenance Group

The mission of the 114th Maintenance Group is to ensure that assigned aircraft and equipment are safe, serviceable, and properly configured to meet mission requirements. Maintenance actions include, but are not limited to, inspection, repair, overhaul, modification, preservation, refurbishment, testing, and analyzing condition and performance.

114th Mission Support Group

The mission of the 114th Mission Support Group is to direct the activities of the 114th Mission Support Flight, 114th Civil Engineer Squadron, 114th Security Forces Squadron, 114th Communications Flight, 114th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and the 114th Services Flight toward the overall missions and objectives of the 114th Fighter Wing.

114th Operations Group

The mission of the 114th Operations Group is to deploy worldwide and execute directed tactical fighter sorties to destroy enemy forces, supplies, equipment, communications systems and installations with conventional weapons.

114th Medical Group

The mission of the 114th Medical Group is, upon mobilization, to provide manpower replacement tasking by the gaining major command, Air Combat Command. The 114th Medical Group provides limited health services for approximately 1,000 personnel assigned to the 114th Fighter Wing.

HQ, South Dakota Air National Guard

The mission of Headquarters, South Dakota Air National Guard is to prepare plans, policies, and programs for Air National Guard units assigned to the State; to advise and assist the Adjutant General in execution of these plans; and assist in the administration, logistics, and training of Air National Guard units.
