Colonel Mark M. Malmberg is the Commander of the 114th Medical Group, Joe Foss Field, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Col. Malmberg received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Moorhead State College, Moorhead, Minn., in 1974. He received his Bachelor of Science in Dentistry with distinction in 1976, and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1978 from the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry, Minneapolis, Minn.
Col. Malmberg enlisted as an Ensign in the United States Navy Reserve while in dental school in 1977. Upon graduation, he went on active duty as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps at the Naval Regional Dental Center, Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla. from 1978 - 1981. He was in the United States Navy Reserve, Inactive from 1981 - 1990. He has been in private practice in Oakes, N.D. from 1981 to the present. In January 1996, he joined the South Dakota Air National Guard as a dentist with the rank of Major in the 114th Medical Squadron.
Col. Malmberg assumed command of the 114th Medical Group in November of 2008. Prior to assuming command, he held the position of Base Dental Surgeon in the 114th Medical Group.
