Leadership Reaction Course

Camp Rapid, S.D. --  Airmen with the 114th Medical Group put their problem solving and teamwork skills to the test while completing the Leadership Reaction Course at West Camp Rapid, Rapid City S.D., July 30, 2015.  The Leadership Reaction Course was a part of the medical group's annual training.
Thirty three members of the 114th Medical Group took advantage of an opportunity to spend their annual training at Camp Rapid where they had access to facilities and Army trainers that are not normally at their disposal.
Senior leaders of the unit visited Camp Rapid to observe the group during their training.
"It's been outstanding training," said Col. Russ Walz, 114th Fighter Wing Commander.   "Seeing groups work together like this to solve problems has been terrific."
The trainers and facilitators for the leadership course were provided from the 1742nd Transportation Company, South Dakota Army National Guard.
The leadership course consists of multiple stations, each having a different challenge that teams must evaluate and overcome.  The challenges require strength, agility, teamwork and problem solving skills.  Teams use limited resources and their own fortitude and ingenuity to get everyone through the obstacles.
"I think it is great," said Tech. Sgt. Sara Jones, 114th Medical Group Medical Technician.  "It really strengthens team building and working together."
Jones followed up by saying that the toughest part was getting started with the first challenge.  After that the team melded together and worked as a cohesive unit.
Never in the history of the National Guard have we been better trained, equipped or more heavily relied upon that we are today.
