Everyone has been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather in South Dakota this winter, but no one enjoys it more than those working outside in the elements.

Security Forces Squadron personnel have to endure these harsh conditions more than alot of other airmen at the 114th Fighter Wing.  These airmen selflessly expose themselves to the elements in order to keep the base and its personnel protected.

"It's perfect," said Staff Sgt. Eric Gage of the weather. "It's cool enough that it is comfortable wearing all of our gear, but warm enough that I do not need a coat."

Sgt. Gage recalled working outside one winter when it was so cold that his pen froze. He then needed to cycle pens, always keeping one pen inside his shirt. He used body heat to keep one pen thawed at all times.

Winter isn't over in South Dakota just yet, but members of the 114th Security Forces Squadron hopes the rest is as warm as it's been so far.
