SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The 114th Fighter Wing recruiters hosted a career day for high school students April 29, 2015 at Joe Foss Field, S.D.

The event was held to showcase the many careers available within the South Dakota Air National Guard to area high school seniors and juniors.

"This gives them the opportunity to hear from younger Airmen who just got back from training instead of always hearing us talk," said Tech. Sgt. Bo Martz, 114th FW production recruiter.

The event was attended by approximately 30 high school juniors and seniors from across the state along with their parents.

The students and their parents got the chance to hear from Col. Russ Walz, the 114th FW commander, and went on a base tour. Areas visited were the civil engineers, security forces, medical services, finance, weapons, and aircraft maintenance.

During the tour, the students were able to watch the launch of two of the unit's F-16 aircrafts. They learned about the different careers that it takes to operate the base and spoke with Airmen about their specific jobs.

After lunch, a few students and their parents stayed to talk to the recruiters and set up appointments to discuss in detail the opportunities the South Dakota Air National Guard has to offer.

"I was considering other branches of service first, but the Air Guard is definitely on top of my list after today," said Nathan Decheneaux, a junior from Winner, S.D.
